Our June Gathering

DULCIMER GATHERING, June 17, 2023, Shenandoah Room, Bridgewater Retirement Community

WE SURE HAD FUN

HEARTSTRINGS of Woodstock was our GATHERING’s  LEADER and they were MOST EXCELLENT.

Note the snazzy matching shirts.

They kicked off group playing with MORE THAN DULCIMERS, featuring a Native American drum that kept all of us together as we did indeed “Fly Away.”

There was a wonderful showing of folks from Greenville to Charlottesville, from Waynesboro to Front Royal.

And we welcomed new-comers from Ruckersville and Linville.  The Charlottesville DULCI-CATS have invited one of them to sit in on a couple of their practices.  KUDOS TO THE DULCI-CATS.

We appreciated that one came tuned in DAA, spent about 20 seconds before he began playing counter melodies and harmonies.  He didn’t need tab to join in with his harmonies!

The twenty-plus players thoroughly enjoyed playing tunes together.  Several people commented on how they appreciated having names of tunes early and copies available on website.
HEARTSRINGS treated us to a wonderful rendition of the country Ballard LONG BLACK VEIL and demonstrated the power of the Spoken Word with narration over five dulcimers playing the haunting melody.

Taunting us with a break of delicious cookies and various beverages, we were asked TO STRETCH by one of our group members who is a certified Yoga instructor – she put us through our paces—and WE LOVED IT.  Several folk asked if this a become a “regular feature” of our Dulcimer Gatherings.

Following the break, we were treated to several solos, including a lovely voice with dulcimer accompaniment, a very brief chopsticks rendition, and THREE NIGHTS DRUNK which cracked us up!

We closed out our June Gathering with multi-parts of GO IN PEACE.  And we did—having had FINE FUN.

NEXT GATHERING IS SEPT. 16, 11:00 A.M. CLUB COVERED-DISH PICNIC, THE OASIS, BRIDGEWATER RETIREMENT COMMUNITY.  The “Tuesday Bridgewater Group” will be the Leader for the Gathering.
