A Glorious Day for Our Annual Picnic

WHAT A GLORIOUS DAY!!! The ANNUAL DULCIMER PICNIC was held at The OASIS in the Bridgewater Retirement Community on September 16, 2023.

The Blue Ridge Mountain Dulcimer Players Club began its 12th year with its beginning. Founding Members, out of whose efforts gave rise to the Club, and who continue playing and supporting the mountain dulcimer were recognized and gifted with “mugshot mugs.”

The crisp Fall air resonated with the Joyful Noise Group leading the jam with oldies and goodies—-SOLDIER’S JOY, GRAY CAT, OLD JOE CLARK.

Guitar-playing friends of club members added depth and rhythm as we played AND sang I’LL FLY AWAY.

Two rip-roaring solos, AVALON and SUICIDE IS PAINLESS played by Scott Berg (picture) were to die for—-or not!!

The attendance was most excellent: The Sweet String Sisters from Waynesboro ; Heart Strings of Woodstock (picture); Dulci-Cats out of Charlottesville; new members, former players and visitors . ALL ARE WELCOMED.

Following good music-making and fun-filled socializing, the membership received secretarial and treasury reports and concurred with the following for 2024: Central Coordinator – Dinah Ansley, Secretary – Becky Chalam; Treasurer – Patsy Kislek; Web Wrangler – Lori Lineweaver; Charlottesville – area Coordinator – Penny Reighart; Woodstock area Coordinator – Vicky Germroth; Bridgewater area Coordinator – Dave Lineweaver; and Port Republic area Coordinator – Becky Chalam. Here’s our annual report.

Our dear friend and player LeVerle Sappington was remembered as we played GO IN PEACE. And we were reminded her memorial service will be Sept. 30, 4:00 p.m. Church of the Brethren in Bridgewater.

A sumptuous feast of salads, barbecue, cookies, vegetables, fruits and cheeses satisfied any hunger and strengthen several folks for more playing after lunch. It was indeed A GLORIOUS DAY for the Blue Ridge Mountain Dulcimer Players Club.
