9:30 – 11:00 – INTRODUCTION TO FLAT-PICKING
Location: Apartment ____, Maple Terrace
AUBREY ATWATER will provide instruction, demonstration, and important tips for beginning flat-pickers on alternating the direction of the flat pick. Requirement: Comfort playing fiddle-tunes. Note: Class size limited to ten due to space accommodations. Register as early as possible.
9:30 – 11:00 – – CHORDING, STRUMMING, SINGING in IONIAN, REVERSE IONIAN, and MIXOLYDIAN

ELWOOD DONNELLY will teach basic chords for each mode, how to strum and sing at the same time.

11:30 – 1:00 – PLAYING BY EAR
Location: TBA in Maple Terrace
AUBREY ATWATER will show the traditional way to work out melodies and harmonies. This “playing by ear” helps train the ear as the player takes on a different relationship to the dulcimer.
11:30 – 1:00 – GOSPEL SING-A-LONG, PLAY-A-LONG
Location: Alexander Mack A, Maple Terrace
ELWOOD DONNELLY will teach a variety of gospel songs he has collected from various sources, using simple chord progressions that can be adapted to many instruments. It is helpful to know basic chords. Gospel Sing-a-Long, Play-a-Long will be in D-A-DD tuning and the songs will come from Elwood’s Carter Family songbook, Such Singing You Will Hear.

Location: Alexander Mack A, Maple Terrace
AUBREY ATWATER and ELWOOD DONNELLY will present a workshop showcasing the lasting impact of Irish music to both the Appalachian Mountains and the nation at-large.
