Two opportunities for IN-PERSON Workshops have been offered to our club members by the Roanoke Valley Dulcimer Club. If you have been waiting eagerly for in-person classes, this is a great opportunity at a very reasonable price.
Sam Edelston Workshops & Concert
Sunday, July 24, 2:00 – 5:00 pm
Innovative Sam Edelston, will present workshops followed with a concert at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 4720 Jubal Early Highway, Boones Mill, Va. (just south of Roanoke). All level, 75-minute workshops will start at 2:00 and 3:30 p.m. The first workshop, “Fifty Shades of Play – is a grab bag of playing techniques and power-user tips”. The second workshop, “Rock & Roll Dulcimer – will focus on 60”s and 70’s rock”. The cost is $20.00 for one class, $30.00 for both. An outstanding 30-minute concert open to the public will start at 5:00 pm. Free-will offering.

Workshop Schedule
9 am Workshop 1 – Focusing on Basic Chords (multi-level players) A workshop on playing in DAd out of major chords. Includes exercises and songs to improve one’s ability to change chords efficiently.
10:30 am Workshop 2 – Sweet & Gentle Songs for the Mountain Dulcimer – Vol 3 (multi-level players) Beautiful, slow-paced tunes for your repertoire, including “Bring Me Lil’ Water, Sylvie,” “The Shepherd’s Wife,” “Mary Hamilton,” and others.

1:30 pm Workshop 3 – Making Arrangements (Advanced Novice & above) This workshop takes a simple tune and progressively takes students through several different ways to play that tune – in different octaves and keys, all in the same tuning. It also shares some basic ways to make transitions between keys. The purpose is to help students learn skills that will enable them to make their own arrangements of tunes they love to play.
3 pm Workshop 4 – Bringing Out the Irish in You (Lower Intermediate & above) A collection of Irish tunes that are still popular in Ireland today. Regardless of your heritage, songs like “I’ll Tell Me Ma,” “Galway City,” “Be Thou My Vision,” and others will help you find some Irish inside of you.
